Meaningful Careers Without the High Cost of College
Serve West Dallas is an organization whose mission is to create and oversee strategic initiatives that address gaps in services to help meet the needs of West Dallas neighbors and show the love of Christ. This mission is accomplished through:
- Encouraging collaboration among Ministry and Strategic Partners
- Providing networking and raising awareness of West Dallas
- Attracting human and in-kind resources for the benefit of the Community
The newest initiative of Serve West Dallas is a job creation program called STEP Forward. STEP Forward puts high school graduates on the path to a career in healthcare — earning certification or degrees while linking them to job placement and support all along the way. The program began when research in West Dallas identified a need for jobs in healthcare. The main problem was the young adults who could fill these positions were not able to access or pay for the necessary training. STEP Forward provides a pathway for young adults with a passion for a career in healthcare to receive the experience and education they need for a meaningful career even if they do not have the means to pay for college.
The program is made possible through the collaborative partnership of 8+ community partners including Baylor University, Anthem Strong Families, United Way, and Young Life. Through training, mentorship, case management, and real-life work experience young adults are receiving a jump start in their careers. This holistic training model is completely free for those eligible for the program.
