The Economic Innovation Group created the 2018 Distressed Communities Index. It compares the Great Recession to what they have coined as, the “Great Reshuffling” meaning “a sorting of human capital, job creation, and business formation that has had vast implications for Americans and their communities.”

This tool can help us identify poverty rate, community distress scores and rank, population and more. By searching your zip code you can see the comparison between the Great Recession and today’s change. For example, we searched Portland and found the following:
